Making Music - March 1, 2013
House of Melody is an Arkansas-based southern rock band of self-professed weekend warriors Steve "Kish" Moody, Nick Carter, Steve Shatzer, and James "Lynn" Burke. They recently recorded a collection of Lynyrd Skynyrd tunes, called Turn It Up, to promote and
generate scholarships for music education. Available online at digital outlets such as iTunes, CD Baby,
and ReverbNation, as well as the band's website, Turn It Up features classics like "The Needle and the Spoon," "Saturday Night Special" and "Simple Man." The band's guitarist, Burke, is a 777 captain for an international air courier and a check airman. He explains how he and his cohorts turned a love for Skynyrd and educational outreach into an
avocation that might make some rock stars jealous.

Have to borrow a line from Homer Simpson: Ahhhhhhhhh, gear. Anyhow, some tunes - like "The Needle and the Spoon" and "Simple Man" - sound like period-correct gear and tones, whereas tunes like "Saturday Night Special" sound a lot more modern. I wanted to know - we all want to know - what gear was used and how the guit-slingers chose it. What's interesting about these two guys - James "Lynn" Burke and Steve "Kish" Moody - is they appear to have totally different geard-headedness. Lynn is nuts about gear, and Kish is a plug 'n play dude, which is why Kish is first below: Lynn's answer is a lot longer!

First of all, gotta say it takes large cojones to cover a band of Lynyrd Skynyrd's stature beyond just one tune. It may even take huger ones to get a PR firm to broadcast that to the world. In other words, here in Wood-land, you better nail it or do something truly interesting with it, or risk being tarred, feathered and paraded through the streets which have no name... or something like that. That's how I, a diehard old Skynyrd fan, see it anyway (lol).
